Kiser,

August 14th, 2007

Kiser is a clothing brand whose shirts, jackets and hoodies were born in the streets and since, have gone far beyond their beginnings. Kiser Haydar Barnes began selling his unique graffiti-inspired apparel while dodging police officers on the streets of downtown New York City. His line has since evolved into a distinct graphic-design/fashion art form that emphasizes the concept of “Hunt Beauty.”

Kiser

Kiser’s pursuit of truth and originality has lead him to create a series of one-of-a-kind, politically-charged designs. His pursuit can best be described by his image of a flower alongside AK-47 guns. The guns reflect the destructive potential in us that is tamed by the creative spirit represented by the flower. In effect, a peaceful revolution. His style focuses primarily on the search for this type of beauty in the ever-changing Graphic Life in which we live.

Kiser

Born in Nigeria, raised in Israel and educated at The Rochester Institute of Technology, Kiser’s art has blossomed into its own visual language. Kiser’s “Hunt Beauty” images are inspired by Hip-Hop, Middle-Eastern and African cultures which he blends together to form a symphony of universally relevant designs.

Kiser

His fashion is INTENSE COMPLEX AND DEEPLY INTELLECTUAL . sometimes IT IS political, sometimes IT IS playful BUT IT IS always about balance. Kiser’s eclectic style has lead him to collaborate on projects with the likes of Chloe, DJ A-Trak, HBO, The Brooklyn Circus and Timberland among others.

Kiser

His current apparel line is featured in over 30 stores internationally and online. His shirts, and their designs, have been acclaimed by publications such as URB, Guys, Nylon, Source, GQ, Cargo, and Complex magazines …

Keith, Turtlehead:

Turtlehead are a collective based in Ireland with one eye on the establishment, another on the subversive and another on stuff we like.

HeadHoods,

August 6th, 2007

Clinton, HeadHoods :

HeadHoods all started while drinking what I think was an abnormally good cup of coffee while designing at a low paying yet prestigious graphic design position in New York City.

HeadHoods

It was cold out and I was probably wearing the ever so popular blazer / hooded sweatshirt combo and was thinking to myself “the hood, what an unutialized piece of fabric” and then suddenly thought to myself.

“well wouldn’t it be interesting if somebody printed a proportional profile of a face on the hood of a sweatshirt?, It would almost be like putting on another identity when you walked to work or went about your daily business.”

HeadHoods

Working and living in New York City, sadly enough it is all about ones identity. So I ran with the idea of HeadHoods and am in the process of having a lot of fun with it. I personally love how this particular concept of clothing interacts with the public.

HeadHoods

While working a full time job designing book jackets (another low paying job) and playing alot of music (a non paying job), I also run a clothing line and that clothing line is called Headhoods.

HeadHoods

So since 3 years ago, I have been compiling and manipulating different style faces from old catalogues / old postcards / old magazines while thinking about this idea of printing faces on hoods.

I never even would have dreamed of starting my own line and thought that if anything I would be collaborating with somebody with this idea.

I’ve approached several  people and all of them thought the idea didn’t go well with their existing line. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and start HeadHoods myself.

I eventually relearned the art of silkscreening and the whole process behind it and fabricated what I like to call a silkscreen factory in my apartment.

HeadHoods

This allows me to have full control of the line. I feel I am at the very tip of the iceberg and have big plans for HeadHoods.

I have many faces and ideas I am looking forward to introducing to the line.

HeadHoods

HeadHoods are currently only available online through the website I plan on selling HeadHoods in boutiques and stores in the very near future and am working with potential European distributor as well, but until then they are only available online.

Carbon Sever

Carbon Sever is the first pair of sunglasses made entirely of carbon fiber. Carbon Sever sunglasses are handmade by skilled expert craftsmen.

The workmanship of the over 40 carbon “skins” necessary to achieve the finished item requires an elaborate production process. The “skins” are kept at a temperature of 15 degrees below zero before the long sophisticated phase of moulding and processing.

The sunglasses are then hand-sanded with special paper and painted; this process is repeated at least three times to obtain the finished product. Each pair of sunglasses is unique, and therefore cannot be counterfeited.

The design of Carbon Sever, devised by the Italia Independent internal team, is characterised by soft yet aggressive shapes that make the sunglasses unisex.
