Storyville

July 14th, 2008

Storyville was founded in Louisiana in 2007 by eleven siblings who were on a mission to support local apparel designers.

Storyville

Starting out with only 10 t-shirt designers, Storyville now represents 70+ Louisiana and Texas designers. Storyville now has shops in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (next to LSU) and in Austin, next to the University of Texas.

Storyville

Many Storyville designers are college students; all of the models on wearyourstory are students.

Storyville

Over half of all sales go directly into the pockets of local designers. As Storyville grows and is able to open additional shops in college towns across the country, the goal will be to create a unique, national click and mortar marketplace for local designers.

Storyville

The shops will allow Storyville to be “on the streets” and constantly aware of upcoming designers, while Storyville’s growing Internet presence will allow Storyville to better represent and promote these designers to markets in which they might not otherwise get exposure. Right now, Storyville is eyeing expansion into cities like Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Tempe, Arizona, Gainesville, Florida and Athens, Georgia.

Storyville

Storyville enjoys checking out online giants like Threadless.com, Snorgtees and BustedTees. Threadless’ community-based approach is especially inspiring. But we Storyvillains feel like no enough attention is paid to local designers (who retain ownership of their own designs, and often also sell through their own websites or sites like etsy).

Storyville

So if you’re interested in checking locally-designed, limited-run tees and supporting local artists, make sure to visit Storyville !

New Artists at FUSShop

July 11th, 2008

New to FUSShop today are four new prints from four new artists…O.Two, Hutch, Mr.Jago & RYCA

Here is a little Introduction:

O.Two creates work based around the written type-form. His canvases are snap-shots of the fractured typography and ornate interpretations of New York graffiti that have emerged from the artist’s illegal pieces. CLICK HERE

Hutch has been prettifying the streets of Brighton with his distinctive stencils and paste-ups for a good few years now, mixing his decidedly Rock ‘n’ Roll Graf aesthetics with unexpected elements from popular cultures treasure trove. CLICK HERE

Mr.Jago, Not a graffiti artist as such he took the influence of graffiti and ran with it in a completely different direction to everyone else at the time. CLICK HERE

RYCA brings you two iconic movies for the price of one, Reservoir Troopers. Star Wars imagery has cropped up in the work of countless Graffiti and Street Artists work since it was first released and we think this ones a winner. These babies are pretty special as they are all made by the artist himself. CLICK HERE

Tell Threadless your story

July 9th, 2008

Community-centric tee shirt company Threadless is asking designers to turn the true stories of their lives into works of art in its latest “Loves” campaign.

Tell Threadless your story

To help lead the way, Threadless has partnered up with original, personal storytelling site Fray, self-publishing site Blurb, and the film Stephen Tobolowsky’s Birthday Party, written by and starring famous character actor Tobolowsky (Groundhog Day, Deadwood, Heroes) as he tells fascinating stories from his life on-screen and off.

Threadless, Fray, Blurb and Stephen Tobolowsky are giving submitters the chance to prove that extraordinary things happen to ordinary people, and run wild with this challenge; tell their stories through design.

The chosen design could become the cover of Fray’s third volume of tales titled “Sex and Death,” so the design must incorporate these two topics into its art.

Threadless Loves” challenges give designers an opportunity to flex their skills and design to a particular challenge. Challenges are sponsored and supported by companies relevant to the idea. Previous “Loves” partners include Hot Chip, Moby, MTV’s Human Giant, and the Lomographic Society International.

The designer of the chosen true story will also receive goodies from each partner including a personal subscription to Fray quarterly and two additional subscriptions for friends, $150 to go towards a personal Blurb book, an outgoing voicemail message recorded by Stephen Tobolowsky himself, and an autographed copy of Stephen Tobolowsky’s Birthday Party DVD and poster.

In addition, the designer chosen gets $2k in cash, and of course, his or her design on an awesome Threadless tee.

Deadline for entries is July 23, 2008.

Streetwear with beat label Seventyseven is doing it again …

July 4th, 2008

Having hooked up with record label and DJ agency Milk ‘n’ 2 Sugars in March for this year’s WMC (Winter Music Conference) in Miami Florida, Seventyseven will be continuing the collaboration by creating an ‘Ibiza 08’ tee for the record label.

Seventyseven

The tee will represent British streetwear at its best while capturing the mantra of the summer. The tee is colourful and show heavy music associations enabling MN2S to offer a product with street influence as opposed to branded ‘merchandise’.

MN2S will host their weekly event at the refined El Divino club which boasts views of Ibiza’s port and old town. The events will run for 13 weeks throughout the summer, including pre-sunset parties at the famous Café Savannah. The Woofer tee can be found at both of these events plus various retail points throughout the island.

Seventyseven

MN2S, a UK based label dedicates itself to all things in House music and DJs. It holds dance events not just in the UK but all over Europe, bringing in masses of crowds. And as an agency, they list a whole host of DJ’s and artists on their books.

Seventyseven, born in 2002 dedicates itself to all things street. It focuses on independence and creativity. Stockists are available online and via chain and independent stores.

Seventyseven also recently launched a new denim range know as DNM Division where the designs are fresh and original, but simple. There are just two designs for the season, one a dark denim with a straight leg, the other washed denim with a looser fit. The label will also bring in a new accessories range for the autumn followed with new knitwear, shirts, wax parka jackets plus customised hoods and retro tees all which are bright and eye catching.

The collection also holds a ‘Born and Bred’ line which focuses many of its products on UK production – something that is quite a treasure in today’s fashion industry.

Already boasting an array of music fans Seventyseven’s music influence is clear in the collection….. Ghetto Blaster, Headphones, Bass Beats, Cassette and Ape Phones designs. In addition the MN2S prints are easily recognisable as Seventyseven.

Seventyseven

Continuing the love of music the label links up twice a year with the Southport Dance Weekender and designs are worn by worldwide DJs who clearly love the label. Seventyseven’s range of tees, jackets and knitwear are some of the best in streetwear, taking influences from pretty much anything from the street including skating, art, comics, film, graffiti and graphic design.

But most evident power continues to be the music.

An excerpt from their quirky artist’s bio reads: “Sentimental Soy Cheese is the collective moniker of 2 former regular human beings whose true identities may never be known. Their peculiar pseudonym came about due to a very emotional period of time when, after being lost in the wilderness for several days and having nothing but unusually large amounts of soy cheese as sustenance.”

Beautiful/Decay: Five news additions !

These necklaces are constructed mosaic style out of laser-cut gloss reflective and glitter lucite, inlayed with stained wood. Fashioned in three color ways; black and gold with natural light wood and a silver B/D logo, valentine hot pink with nail vanish red and a silver B/D logo, and teal with matte white, silver glitter and a reflective cyan B/D logo. Features an adjustable matching chain with small Steven Shein matching lucite tag. Each style has been hand-crafted in an exclusive edition of only 25 pieces per color way. Pendant is 2.5 inches wide.

Josh Clancy, aka ToothJuice, crafts “Melting Hearts,” an imaginiative elaboration on human anatomy, combined with elegant design elements.

Beautiful/Decay: Five news additions !

Josh has worked with clients such as Disney/Hollywood Records, Virgin Records, Payless Shoes, Fearless Records, and many other companies and Brands.
